Our first meal out in nearly four months, and this was a great way to start. Their website has clear instructions about the health rules at present, staff are very friendly, menu is stunning, food and drinks excellent. This is not pub grub, but restaurant quality food in a relaxed atmosphere. Must also add the car park has an amazing view, the village is very picturesque and there are also rooms available at The Durham Ox.
Absolutely fantastic. Food was wonderful - we had the fish platter followed by the chateaubriand platter. So much food that we only managed to share the sticky toffee pudding dessert. We will definitely be back.
This was our first visit, recommended by Laura, for Sunday Lunch on 20December2020. The staff member who booked us in said, “table for two outside”. We were not aware there was an outside! We declined this and had a table in the main restaurant. We ordered two roast pork meals and whilst the food looked appetising the Yorkshire pudding and vegetables were COLD, the roast potatoes were just warm. We ordered hot gravy to try to heat the meal, this had little effect as the food was too cold. On a cold winters day the last thing one wants is a cold meal!
Share what this place is like? We're in the middle of a terrifying pandemic, the world is losing its head, and the Durham Ox is taking sensible measures, then providing a superior service. Food was predictably great, along with the wine and everything else.
