The temple’s buildings are typical of those found in thousands of Buddhist temples around China. What makes it special are two things. First, growing on its grounds is the oldest tree in China of a species whose name I have forgotten. Second, the temple is named after a royal princess who decided to become a nun.

永泰寺，位于河南省登封市区西北约11公里处的太室山西麓，坐东朝西，面对少林寺，背依气势巍巍的望都峰北临秀丽多姿的子晋峰，南有知崖万壑的少室山和碧波荡漾的少林水库。这里群山环绕，峰峦叠翠，林木葱郁，溪水萦回，宝塔点缀，景色清幽。寺前的登偃旅游公路南行1公里与207国道相连，交通方便。永泰寺是佛教禅宗传入中原后营建的第一座女僧寺院，还是我国现存始建年代最早的尼僧佛寺。为河南省第一批省级重点文物保护单位。
