This Temple is located in the historical center of Évora and its construction dates back to the first century A.D. During the course of time, many things happen to the temple (destruction of the building by Germanic people invasion in 5th century or incorporation of the ruins into the walls of a tower in middle ages) but the main pillars which we can see today remained. It is believed that this temple was similar to the Maison Carrée in France. The ruins of the temple is located near the Cathedral and the Museum of Évora. there is a lovely park also in front of it with a nice view of the city.

The best preserved ancient temple in Portugal. Built by the Romans in the second century, it was later a place of execution during the Inquisition, an arsenal, theater and, finally, a slaughterhouse. 1800 years of good and bad times. Sit down in the evening and think about these times as you gaze upon this building.

Interesting historical landmark of Évora. A few pillars remain, outlining the ruins of an old Roman temple. Located close to the city center, this place also offers a small park to sit and enjoy the sun.

Some really cool history here. The temple is quite well-preserved and lots of space around to appreciate it with fewer crowds than some other places. The nearby park helps break up the crowds as well. It's basically next door to the cathedral so it's extremely convenient to visit both and the temple has no cost. We went back at night as well to see it lit up, also worthwhile and I recommend seeing it both in daytime and at night!

We'll maintained and beautifully presented roman artifact next to the park with a huge view and modern sculptures. More signs/ directions around the town would be helpful.

Very cool to see this in Évora. Just goes to show how much history is embedded in the city. Glad to see it is still being kept up. A fantastic monument to see in Évora

Well worth the detour we took from a nearby place we were staying at. The town is very pleasant. We parked at a large municipal free parking lot and made our way into the old part of town that was once home to the romans and is surrounded by walls from the medieval period. The squares in the town are large and dotted with restaurants. We walked up some streets until we came upon the ruins of this roman temple located next to a medieval church with stunning architecture. However, it was the temple that caught my imagination and wonder. As you look upon the ruin you cant help be be in awe of the skill of the builders and how they managed to move such large stones into place. And yet here it still stands many centuries later. There is a small park in front of the Temple and if you stroll to the walled edge of the park you can see a wonderful view of the town and surrounding areas. What caught my eye was the roman aqueduct that still stands there to this day almost in tact as it was when first built. The was how the cleaver Roans moved water from a source to the city itself. An amazing form of engineering and architecture. Its worth a detour from the A6 highway of your travelling on it to or from Lisbon.
