The food was pretty good for being so out of the way. Small place with both a traditional shoes off area and a regular table/bar area to eat.
Delicious noodles. You should eat the Houto because it's a specialty from this area. Ramen is boring, but if you're hungry then go for it.
Found this place randomly after a visit to the music box Forrest. This is ‘home cooked’ food, ran by two old ladies. They serve a variety of noodle and ramen dishes, we tried the houtou noodles which was hearty and delicious. Surprisingly they have an English menu which was great. Decor might not be fancy and modern but only adds to the experience of eating somewhere ‘local’ and not pretentious. Recommended if you are looking for somewhere to eat after leaving the. Touristy Kawaguchigo music box Forrest.
The restaurant serve many kind of Japanese food, even the Japanese food I didn't know before. I ate Houtou here and I like it.
The floor is sticky. First dirty restaurant in Japan I've come across. The Udon and Ramen tasted like they came from a grocery store instant noodle cup. Service was fine. Only bright note was the gyoza which were tasty. Wish I had checked reviews first. Their is a great place for noodles 5 minutes away.
Tantalizing! The owner is a grandma who actually serves her guests, cooks and does everything at once. She's not able to speak English, but the udon, ramen and garlic gyoza was absolutely delicious! She was really patient with us despite us not understanding what she was saying, luckily for us there was a customer who spoke english/japanese and said that the waiting time was about 30 minutes. We were okay with it, and we definitely didn't regret our decision.
I really love the Gyoza with garlic. Their ramen also taste pretty traditional.
