My favourite izakaya at Kyoto with friendly chef and staff. The best is that it is still opened while the others have closed at 8pm. 我在京都最爱的日本小食店。

Ordered pork udon, cold tampura udon, dumplings, green tea plum wine, red tea plum wine, citrus plum wine. Taste ok.
Relatively reasonable prices. The roast pork hot noodle soup was just so-so. The fried chicken however was above average: very tasty! The staff speak some English and the menu is easy to navigate. The interior could use a complete overhaul as it's far from attractive but given the prices of the food and the standard of it, it's hard to argue too much. If you're on a budget it appears to be one of the better options in this particular area.
Hot rice wine was great at 160 yen. Yakisoba at 650 yen. Nice ambience and staff.
I highly recommend the tofu salad if you are vegetarian or if u just love tofu. The fried tofu bean curd was good too but a bit salty/oily.
Stumbled upon this place while taking a breather from Gion Matsuri. Was a very very nice meal. Tempura corn was amazing and the Kyoto Gyoza was very solid too. Nice attentive staff and good drink prices 500 for a high ball. Good selection of sake as well and there are a couple of English speaking staff that can help you through choices. Highly recommend this Izakaya.
The food was very good, the staff very friendly and nobody was smoking, although it’s aloud . Very typical place. I would recommend.
I’ve been coming to Genzou for years and it always offers great value. The beef bbq dish and the rounded gyoza are great.
