Delicious and unique vegetable dishes that are totally worth a trip to this tiny town. The owner is really friendly, explains the dishes, and is accommodating of vegetarians (I emailed ahead to make a reservation and let them know I was vegetarian, so no fish sauce, etc). Not possible these days, but I wish I could go back!

Incredible! One of our favorite restaurants in all of Japan. We were traveling Japan for three months researching food and beverages. Gojo Genbei is a true gem with an outstanding menu and impeccable service. I am still dreaming about the strawberry and shiitake and kudzu yuzu dessert and persimmon wine. If you don't visit here during your visit to Nara prefecture, you will surely be missing out on something special.
Had an amazing full course meal. I'd suggest omakase option, save you all the trouble of figuring out what to try.

地元産の珍しい野菜食材を見事にフル活用され目にも鮮やかな作品に仕上げられています。ひとつひとつ丁寧に亭主自ら説明して頂けるので、より興味をそそります。お味付けはあくまで素材本意、薄味ですが、出汁が効いています。4050種類の素材を使い、10品に仕上げ3500円です。ゆっくり頂きますので満腹感も有りますよ五條市の誇りですね️素敵なお店ですよ
